Adelaide Fold Belt Iron Ore Projects

Small-scale iron ore mining has been carried out in the Flinders Ranges historically, primarily as a source of flux for the Port Pirie lead smelter. Despite the prospectivity of the Fold Belt as an exploration target, and potential producer of iron ore, the area has been largely ignored during the recent surge to identify new deposits of iron for the expanding world market. During regional exploration activities Copper Range identified several localities of high grade iron mineralisation and subsequent reviews of known iron occurrences in the Flinders Ranges has highlighted the prospectivity of this region.

Highlights

  • Initial sampling gives grades ranging from 48% to 67.8% Fe
  • Limited previous exploration for iron in the region
  • Association with magnetic features
  • Numerous untested magnetic features in CRJ tenements
  • All targets close to rail and road network
  • Ease of access to targets for exploration
